This is a shot of Shazmin I took on the Joe McNally workshop I attended this weekend. I've worked with Shazmin a number of times both at school and in a private capacity. She's a great model to work with and I know I am always going to come away with some nice shots of here. This wasn't the idea I originally wanted to go for, but when I mentioned my idea to one of the guys in my group, he ended up using it so I decided to do something different - I tend to avoid doing what others are doing, even on workshops. I like to come out with images I can call my own.

This shot used a single overhead SB-900 Speedlight shot through a Flashpoint Q series 6" beauty dish directly in front of the model, slightly high. Flash was set to TTL

The workshop was great. Joe teaches in very much the same way he writes. So if you've read any of his books, you'll know what to expect. He doesn't hold anything back and pretty much everything he says is useful information in one way or another. Speaking of books, I've been reading his newest - Sketching Light - and it is great. Filled with dozens of examples of real shoots Joe has done, including all the lighting info, camera setting, problems encountered and solutions uses. Well worth the $50 if you are into lighting and want to step up your game.
