After being shut out the night before with boring gray skies, I almost missed this sunrise. After listening to the rain all night on my tent I barely recognized the change from rain to snow. I was shocked to see we’d received 4″ of fresh powder overnight. Fortunately I resisted the urge to stay in my warm sleeping bag!
I bombed 3/4 of a mile up to this lookout in fresh powder to the spot I had scouted the night before. I was rewarded with this magnificent sunrise as a ray of light shot across the valley. The entire show lasted mere minutes before clouds floated over Half Dome and settled into the valley completely obscuring the light.
