Saturday evening Walter and I set out to find the disappearing ice caves on Mt. Rainier. As we started the hike everyone coming down was telling us a storm was coming and that we were headed in the wrong direction. As we passed shredded burnt trees I was having second thoughts. The higher we got the more unpredictable the weather became. We were treated to sunbreaks, sandstorms, thick fog , heavy rains , thunder and lightning. I was almost ready to give up but I told Walt we should just check over one last ridge. This cave was barely standing and probably has melted down by now so I feel lucky we got to see it.
