"Galactic Badlands"

This is an amazing place to view to the wonders of our night sky. The area is called Fonts Point, it is a huge overlook of the majestic Borrego Badlands. The area is absolutely beautiful and really makes you feel on top of the world. I've had this area on my list for a long time, however, it takes a good 4WD vehicle, and some good planning to get out to the specific spot. I may be overly confident in saying this, but this might be one of the first full galaxy panoramas taken at this location.

Achieving the shot was pretty simple. I took 2 rows of 11 images, each creating a 22-image full panorama, reaching over 180 degrees of view. The foreground lighting was created naturally by the setting crescent moon over the horizon behind me. The moon gave enough light to illuminate the foreground. Despite the illumination, it was not strong enough to wash out the galaxy.

You might notice the foggy haze on the right side of the image. The haze is a dust storm caused by strong winds out by Borrego Springs. You might also notice the lights in the distance. That illumination is caused by the small cities of El Centro and Brawley.

This has become one of my favorite galaxy panoramas and I really hope you all enjoy viewing the image as much as I did taking it. :)
