The amount of interaction between Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons during spring and summer low tides at Hood Canal, WA is what makes this location unique for photography. It's the only place I have seen regular competition between these 2 species for food. The eagle will generally come in, the heron will drop the fish and the eagle will grab it while the heron flies off squawking loudly. This instance was a little bit different as the heron went underwater just after this shot, dropped the fish and the eagle couldn't find it and flew off. Taken during this year's photo workshop there.
