Our "pet" Giant Leopard Moth caterpillar (Hypercompe scribonia) curled up on a checkerboard. It slightly resembled a black checker, so I put it in the position to be crowned and snapped this macro. A few minutes later it uncurled and crawled away. An alternate title was "Master of Disguise."
Gary Holmes, photographer: I am an opportunist photographer of nature, landscapes, abstract, and other found objects of interest. I prefer to capture the spontaneity of things and events as they are occurring, and rarely photograph staged subjects other than portraits. Although I have been a photographer for decades, I have only been posting them for others to see since about September 2012. Although I will continue to post on 500px, I have begun to focus upon my site (gary-holmes.artistwebsites.com) on Fine Art America, which offers a wider range of printing and mounting options not currently available on 500px. As a result, I have now successfully sold several of my works. As time permits, I will continue to steadily post more of my best works on 500px and/or FAA every week. Please revisit my sites periodically.
