High up in the Pirin Mountains sits a very iconic town, with a population of only 400 it is the smallest city in Bulgaria and has a long and complex history. Melnik is surrounded by Sandstone pinnacles and pyramids caved out by the wind and rain over the centuries and came as a overwhelming surprise, as the sun set these cliff faces where illuminated by the soft warm glow creating a great contrast to the blue sky. I could have easily spent the whole holiday at this one spot but the lure of cheap beer and good company proved too great and I will sure to return next year.
