This year we had an unusually long, hot summer (I was FINALLY able to successfully grow corn and melons to ripeness!) followed by early rains. Most years in the cool, moist Pacific Northwest the trees would have largely dropped their leaves by now, but this year they are just now beginning to change color, and since it's so very wet now they will likely not spread carpets of dry, crisp, colored leaves but will instead lose them during windstorms, and the leaves will quickly rot wherever they land.

I'm not taking any chances. I dug out this image that I made in my college days. Outside the wind will still be blowing and the rain coming down in sheets, but in this way I can still enjoy an Indian Summer...
