Last weekend I went backpacking into an beautiful and unique part of New Mexico, the Bisti/De-Na-Zin wilderness. The area is located in a remote part of New Mexico and far away from city lights so the stars and Milky Way are very bright out there.
Hoodoos and other bizarre rock formations are scattered for miles around the area. Hiking throughout the night and photographing this place was such a surreal and otherwordly experience.
Lighting for the foreground came from various flashlights, headlamps and cell phones.
The orange color on the horizon isn't so much from light pollution but dust in the air after a very windy afternoon. The green is the result of airglow.
