Monet was obsessed with light, especially how the light at different time would change the subject thus changing the mood.
He would often paint the same subject over and over studying the light. He did this in his "Haystacks"
This way of thinking no doubt led to the modern notion of examining a composition's every possible variation by modern painters, such as Rothko, Reinhard and Mondrian.
In photographer mode, as I'm composing an image out in the field, these artists are never far from my mind and they have a huge baring on how I work. Notably in composition and the role of color and light and how it can effect the mood of the image.
This scene so struck me on this cold Colorado morning as reminiscent of Monet's "Tramonto a Venezia" with the warm tonal glow and reflection in low light. I knew when photographing this image that I'd bring out the "Monet" in post production.
I'm grateful for the influence of these artists before me who have taught me to thoroughly examine a visual "idea"
