A 10m Buddha in cave number 3 of the Yungang caves complex near Datong, Shanxi Province, China.

The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage listed site of some 50 ancient Buddhist temple grottoes carved into the side of a sandstone cliff. Constructed between 400 and 525AD, they display artistry in the carvings that is unsurpassed in China. This carving has lost it’s colorfully painted plaster which would have been originally held in place by supports housed in the holes visible on the carving.
