Further to the recent release of the GlimpseCatcher software update 2.00, I can today announce that the GlimpseCatcher is now also available in a high-quality case version. While the original (un-cased) version remains of course also available, this new development comes as a consequence of a growing demand for such a cased version. The timing, triggering and configuration functionalities of the 2 versions are exactly the same.

The GlimpseCatcher has become a reference in water drop photography and – together with the recent software update – it is likely the most versatile tool around for high-speed photography in general. While this is not its major purpose, it may also be used for time lapse photography. The original (un-cased) version has actually been very easy to use already, requiring no particular electronic knowledge. It is my hope that the cased version will now make the GlimpseCatcher also accessible to people who have been somewhat scared off so far by the more “electronic look” of the original version.

Please remember that I still do the GlimpseCatcher in very restricted quantities in my spare time as a purely private hobby-project, with every unit individually hand-assembled and hand-tested. Therefore enquiries will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. As I have succeeded so far, I will of course continue to endeavour that every request will be answered within shortest notice. For any information, please contact me at GlimpseCatcher@gmx.net.

Following is an overview of the main features of the GlimpseCatcher:

- High-quality black anodized aluminium case

- 6 channels for connection of individually controllable devices (solenoid valves, …)
• gold-plated and isolated cinch/RCA connectors, individually controlled via optocoupler
• marked in red and identified as per the corresponding red device area in the GUI for intuitive operation
• individually configurable in microseconds with up to 10 phases (i.e. 5 drops in case of solenoid valves)
• individually trigger-able via the start button (either integrated start button, external extension start button or GUI start button), one of the 2 external triggers or a large selection of logical, time-, direction- or speed-dependent combinations of these 2 external triggers
• useable also for connection of cameras and strobes (with up to 10 phase in this case, allowing for example exactly timed stroboscopic exposures with a single strobe or usage of camera’s mirror lockup function)
• solenoid valve connection cables with standardized valve plug available, equipped with corresponding cinch/RCA connector marked in red for intuitive connection (other device connection cables possibly to follow in future)

- 6 channels for connection of individually controllable cameras and strobes
• gold-plated and isolated cinch/RCA connectors, individually controlled via optocoupler
• marked in blue and identified as per the corresponding blue device area in the GUI for intuitive operation
• individually configurable in microseconds with 2 phases (i.e. delay and activation time)
• individually trigger-able via the start button (either integrated start button, external extension start button or GUI start button), one of the 2 external triggers or a large selection of logical, time-, direction- or speed-dependent combinations of these 2 external triggers
• useable also for connection of devices (with up to 2 phases in this case)
• a large selection of cables available for strobes (PC Sync, PocketWizard) and cameras (Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Olympus, Konica Minolta, Samsung, Pentax, …), equipped with corresponding cinch/RCA connector marked in blue for intuitive connection

- 2 trigger inputs for connection of external trigger equipment
• gold-plated and isolated cinch/RCA connectors
• marked in green and identified as per the corresponding trigger selectors in the GUI for intuitive operation
• useable individually or in logical, time-, direction- or speed-dependent combinations to start individual device/camera/strobe channels
• currently IR phototransistor cables (for activation – turning on or interrupting – by standard laser pointer beams) and “open” cables (for connection of various switches) available, equipped with corresponding cinch/RCA connector marked in green for intuitive connection (other trigger cables – i.e. microphone cable, … - possibly to follow in future)

- High-quality integrated start button as well as connection plug for external extension start button (hand- or foot-activated extension start button cables available)

- LED indicators for power and active timing process

- USB plug and cable for connection to computer (native Windows PC, Mac possible via Windows emulation)

- Power jack for offline usage of the GlimpseCatcher (i.e. without connection via USB, which is sufficient to provide the necessary power during normal online usage)

- Likely the most intuitive and easy-to-use GUI around, with all of the comprehensive settings easily accessible and visible from within a single screen

- Likely the highest configuration flexibility around

- GUI currently available in English, German and French (other languages possible with some co-operation ;-)

- Configurations may be easily named, stored (.gcd - GlimpseCatcher configuration data files) and restored (comment fields available both for individual channels and for overall configuration in order to allow complete documentation of stored configurations)

- Offline usage possible with pre-configured configuration

- Automatic repetitions possible (i.e. to realize “films” or to fine-tune the exposure moment) with configurable intervals and configurable increments on all individual phases of all individual device/camera/strobe channels

- Possibility to generate and save timing details in a user-readable text file (especially useful to document individual image information for automatically repeated shots with increments)

- Individual channels easily switchable to UNUSED while maintaining configured values to avoid activation of the corresponding output channel during configuration testing or setup

- Selective flush function: GUI-selected device channels may be permanently activated (i.e. for emptying Mariotte siphons, …)

- Speed measurement and display

- High timing precision with precision indication after each timing process

- Many accessories available: fully assembled camera/strobe/valve cables, single power supply incl. adaptor for up to 4 solenoid valves (same power supply also useable for powering GlimpseCatcher during offline usage), Mariotte siphons, …
