This is my first official attempt at capturing star trails. While camping at Julian, CA, I planted my tripod outside our tent and took a few test shots. I also made sure to point the camera towards the north, so that the star trails would be cicular. Once I got an idea of the correct exposure, I set the remote timer to take 26 shots with each shot exposed for 3.5 minutes. My friend and I light painted the first shot alone to illuminate the tent and the nearby foliage. The temperatures outside were subzero and after two hours, it was done.
