A re-edit of an image I took last March. Cholla Cacti are lit up as the suns first rays peek through the openings of the Kofa Mountains in west Arizona.
During a 3 day trip here last March, I had my fair share of encounters with the barbed cactus balls that the cholla cactus drops everywhere. If you aren't careful, these things get stuck everywhere, and are very difficult to remove. I hade one stick my foot, THROUGH the bottom of my shoe.
Tough little bastards. And ironically enough, they nickname this cactus as the 'teddy bear' cactus! I'm guessing more for it's fuzzy appearance rather than its soft and inviting cuddlyness.
