A good friend of mine (Koen Cuppens) has dedicated a couple of years tracking every move of Common Kingfishers (Alcedo atthis) in our area. His findings resulted in very accurate predictions of flight paterns. Once we spotted this stunning male Kingfishers, he could tell exactly which branches the bird would visit. Because this was to be a short walk with binoculars only, he didn't bring any photo equipment. Lugging my camera gear paid off as I set up for a possible shot.
Suddenly the Kingfisher landed in the right spot and as a gift from nature, the clouds parted and a warm winter sun lit the scene. A warm peaceful portet the result.
