Probably, nobody in the world has ever seen this spectacular sight before. Local farmers in Hokkaido invented this method of covering piles of potatoes with snow to increase sugar content. The chimneys that somewhat look like broken cross are for ventilate heat from the potatoes. Potatoes that survived winter in this way will become extremely tasty the next spring.
