One of my favourite Fritillaries from my incredible trip to Dordogne, France in May 2013. I saw at least 30 species of butterfly right outside the front door of the beautiful renovated barn i stayed at, and the neighbouring hillside was a haven for all sorts of wildlife, including a few thousand more butterflies and the amazing Hoopoe and Nightjar. Habitat connectivity there is the best ive ever seen, with pockets of grassland and meadows all over the place. This has obviously helped each species spread far and wide. If only the same could be said for the English countryside!
Despite the cloud and the rain during the first week, the second week was a scorcher and i managed to notch up 50 species. Thought this was pretty good for my first butterflying holiday :) Must re-visit soon as im getting withdrawl!
