After two years of unsuccessful attempts, we finally came close to seeing the annual "fire fall" at Horsetail Falls in Yosemite this year. The park is very dry and there was little water flow on the water falls or the Merced River. This photo was taken along the Merced River's Southside Drive just east of El Capitan. The skies were clear and the sunset was nearly colorless, but just after sunset a few clouds in the area turned reddish-orange and pink and the light from the clouds reflected off the granite. Although there was no water flow at Horsetail, the damp and water-stained granite gave enough reflection to suggest what this sight might offer in a peak season. It was just enough to make us want to try again next February...
