Due to prolonged drought and dry season in California, It has been quite a challenge for this Merlin aka the lady hawk to find little birds as its regular prey. However, life has to go on and despite such scarcity of food and limited options available, it turns to little insects as its substitute diet. This means it has to work extra miles to hunt and catch these bugs repeatedly in the mid air to fill its empty stomach compared to having a single sparrow as the meal of the day.
