This is one of the engines on the Boeing 307 Stratoliner at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. The Stratoliner was the commercial airline version of the B-17 Flying Fortress bomber used during World War II. The civilian model had a range of 1,750 miles at a maximum operating speed of 241 MPH. The plane used four 1,100 horsepower Wright R-1820 Cyclone engines which were quite reliable for long-haul use.
