Truth be told, my fascination came from many many years ago. When I was in school, I was very impressed and inspired by 18th and 19th century stuff. I enjoyed very much the work of Gustav Dore- specifially his illustrations for Dante’s Divine Comedy. As I walked down further into the cavern, I couldnt help but hear Pergelosi’s Stabat Mater ringing in my head (link: http://youtu.be/h9ZET0kU9qs ) . I made many frames of the caverns – but I just wanted to get to the organ to try for a shot.
This was shot with the Canon 5D Mark III on a 16-35 lens. To get the light in front of me as a silhouette we used a 600EX with a ST-E3-RT on the camera.
I really like the yellows and orange in the shot, but I think this is going to be one of those that I am going to make for myself for as a black and white. A big thanks to Charles and the folks at Luray Caverns for the opportunity to get an image out of my head onto paper. I really appreciate it!
