Brown Pelican with Nesting Material.

There is something prehistoric-looking about one of my favourite birds. In fact, the Brown Pelican was almost as extinct as dinosaurs in the 1960-70s and the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill had a potentially disastrous effect on their recovering numbers. Louisiana's state bird can be seen regularly along the Florida coast and is a joy to watch. This pelican is returning to a nest with nesting material, hopefully playing its part in producing the next generation of this most engaging bird.
