Factory Butte, May 2010
This was an exceptional year for wildflowers down in the deserts of central UT. I've since come to discover that conditions like this occur in intervals of five or more years, requiring a specific formula of precipitation within a very narrow window of time.
I lucked out that year--checking reports every day, and finally deciding to pack up the car for two quick days of shooting. Waking before sunrise on the first morning, I was utterly amazed to find this scene in front of my eyes. With no one else in sight, I photographed and explored to my heart's content--blown away by the beauty and contrast of nature's elements.
Who knows when conditions like these will occur next? It's impossible to say--but I hope to find myself there when they do!
