I was making a mad dash through Yosemite to the Eastern Sierra. Traffic had been pretty bad so I was rushing to get to camp before it was completely dark. Up to that point the sky had been completely cloudless, and I figured I'd just continue through without stopping to make any photographs. As I came around the bend into Toulumne Meadows I got a clear view of the sky and saw this scene. I thought about it for a few seconds, then decided I'd be crazy pass up great light in Yosemite.
I stopped the car, grabbed my camera, a single lens and my tripod, and jogged across the meadow. I only had time to try a couple compositions before the light disappeared, but I liked how this one turned out. 5 minutes later and I was heading down Tioga Pass towards Lee Vining.
