I sat with my guide for about 3 hours watching 9 wild dogs rest in the Linyanti area of Northern Botswana! Every time one of them raised their head, we got excited and thought "here we go, hunt time". Finally one of the adults jumped up and ran off with intent. We tried to keep up, but he was much faster than us through the mopane woodland, so we decided to return to the rest of the group. After about 5 minutes he returned carrying the head and front legs of a baby impala. The 4 pups jumped up, grabbed the spoils from him and proceeded to fight over the head! This is gruesome, but it is survival!
