Sakrisoy, Lofoten, Norway

Two of the most picturesque harbours imaginable are situated very close to the photographic heart of the Lofotens the village of Reine. Dominating both Reine and nearby Hamnoy linked by bridges is this enormous pinnacle of black rock dusted with remnant snow. This was actually taken at midnight and as you can see there is still plenty of light in the sky but Sariksoy is a little unusual because the fishing huts or rorbrua as they are known are not pillar box red but ochre and that combination of opposing hues works particularly well with the twilight blues generated at dusk.

Pentax 67II, 55-100 zoom, 0.45ND grad, f/22 at 4 Seconds. Velvia.
