Advertisements for new real estate developments are everywhere in Liuzhou, and in fact across China. Some apartment complexes built not more than 20 years ago here are being torn down for "new and improved" modern mega hi-rise complexes. The self-contained developments include apartments, office space, retail space and grocery stores.

Owning a home is an obsession for most Chinese. A family will not hesitate in spending the majority of monthly income to buy one. The real estate boom has cooled somewhat over the past 18 months and the ads are in the newspaper, magazines, on radio and television and on every available wall.

蜗居, a hit TV series was banned a couple of years ago in China. The main theme throughout the show's run was about the struggle to buy a home and what people would do to get one.

Nearly 7 years in China and I am still struck by how many visual advertisements have this patriotic red/yellow theme and an almost propaganda feel.

Total stroke of luck that the worker walking by was wearing red and yellow.
