Suddenly the normally brilliant lights that illuminate the Golden Gate Bridge went out as if in total power failure. Stars suddenly appeared in the sky. A roar rose throughout the crowd that had lined the foothills above the Golden Gate Bridge in anticipation of what was to come. Then near silence as the only sound was of the waves crashing on the rocks several hundred feet below. Only San Francisco in the distance illuminated the skyline and the bridge stood in stark silhouette against the skyline. I was nervous about being right in the middle of a shot as the fireworks started but decided the odd seen of the Golden Gate in total darkness was too much to resist. Just as the shot finished, the show began.
This is something that you will probably never see again... at least not for another 25 years when they celebrate the 100th Anniversary.
So odd and yet amazing to see the bridge in total darkness.
