This is a reservoir formed by a dam on the Tuolumne River in Yosemite National Park. The dam was completed in 1923. John Muir had led a seven year battle against the damn, but ultimately lost the court case against it's construction. The reservoir provides drinking water to the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area.
