The more common perspective on this pier is from the other side, however, this results in a spit of land appearing between the legs of the pier so we visited in late afternoon when the light had swung round to the north of the pier to take this image. Actually we also visited in the morning and got some images as well before heading off for a great lunch, the shrimp in the "Old Stone Station" down the road in Cambria are superb! San Simeon is a delightful village towards the southern end of California's Big Sur coast, the pier itself being built by the Hearst family, and it is a quiet little corner - just what a photographer needs. Nothing too technical to this image, used a Lee Big Stopper to create the motion in the surf and added a polariser to control the reflections off the water from the afternoon Sun. Processing is in Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 with some increase in the foreground contrast to accentuate the surf pattern.
