It is one of the most recognizable structures in the world. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it is the original monument to eternal love and is widely considered as one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. The Taj Mahal is the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Islamic and Indian architectural styles.It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage SIte in 1983, and is also one of the Seven modern Wonders of the World.
This was taken from across the banks of the Yamuna just after sunset. The process of getting there is a bit tricky and is one that I have a bit of a story to tell. I will cover that on my notes about touring India, but for today, enjoy the image!
