I'm not so crazy about still life. However, I enjoyed to try this exercise concerning the so-called “light painting”. Here is some information about the backstage: take some fruits from your kitchen, better ripe fruits, because they have a lot more “personality”. Take a wooden chopping board and a wooden ladle. Then set up all togheter, putting chopping board, ladle and fruits on a small chair, with a black background at about 50 cm far from your set. Put your camera on a tripod, find the right focus in manual mode (with the light still turned on, of course). Turn off the light, and start to paint with a little hand led torch over the fruits, for the entire duration of the shot (about 15 seconds). Each time you try you will get a different effect, it depends on how you play with the light over the subject and how long you'll stay on it, of course. Great chanche to play with this effects, spending a lot of fun time at home during rainy days.
