Harsh sunlight actually helped to bring out the detail in these very dark feathered birds, as well as help illuminate the distant trees to give a nice background colour.

Finally, it also helped give me a high shutter speed of 1/3200s to freeze the birds in flight. It was quite windy so the birds would hover for a brief second before flying down to the ground. I've not cropped in too tight on purpose, to give the bird space to fly down in to.

Shot at ISO 2000 to help get the shutter speed up. D3s with 600 VR.
