Punta della Dogana in Venezia stands at the gateway of the Canalazzo, the largest canal in Venezia.
Like all of the buildings in this city, Punta della Dogana has many centuries of history.
This building was originally constructed in the 15th century and it served as a Customs of Land and Customs of Sea office.
Since then, this building was restored, re-built and transformed many times. Most recent renovation took place between 2008-2009 by a legendary Japanese architect Tadao Ando who also designed the spectacular Maritime Museum on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.
Punta della Dogana in Venezia is now a museum of contemporary art.
