I figure i was born an artist, my mothers side of my family has a wicked streak of it so I figured I must have inherited it. I was also fortunate enough to have had my father get me a national geographic subscription from about the age of 8 & I must have read every one of them from cover to cover & consequently a dream of travelling the world & taking photos was born.
& from my father I inherited his old cameras, the first decent one being a canon AE-1. So I shot film for a while; exp. when we'd travel as a family overseas & although my shots were dodgy; I loved the process.
But film was expensive & my attention began to drift towards other mediums, I went to art school; majored in oil painting & also dabbled in early digital art. My natural ability with computers & interest in art led me to graphic design; from which I started to make a living after finishing art school. I did this for a good few years, the first digital camera I played with had a floppy drive in it; but eventually dSLR's came out & I decided to wet my feet in photography by buying a 30D & travelling europe.
I had a great time & looking back, i didn't take that many great photos; even though I thought i was pretty good at it.. So when i returned I joined several online photography groups & started to realise how little I knew.. This led to me eventually upgrading to Fullframe & from there everything went off.
These days I still shoot canon 5d2 or 5d3 & have a big love of tilt shift lenses. I pretty much shoot everything, & have several side project & series going. I plan to peak around age 50. that gives me 10 more years practice.. god knows i need it.
