Matthew Patenaude

Largely self taught, Matthew recently began taking additional art instruction from a local artist in Martinsville, IN. He enjoys nature and attempting to portray the beauty of God's creation that he sees all around him. He enjoys many styles, but prefers to portray light and shadow, particularly appreciating the added depth this tends to give to two-dimensional art. Color is a recently found delight, having predominantly stuck to monochromatic or black and white art previously.

Indiana is his adopted state, being originally from Florida, and having married a Hoosier gal, Carrie. He and Carrie have three rapidly growing children who also enjoy art. They presently live in Martinsville, IN, after periods of time serving as a missionaries in Mongolia and China. He now ministers in Bloomington, IN, and believes that the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is the most valuable thing to which anyone can devote his life.

Matthew also enjoys music, linguistics, history, world cultures and photography. He speaks Chinese and Mongolian, and enjoys putting Asian elements and themes into his art.

Photography has become a way in his busy schedule to produce art when he doesn't have the time to paint, draw or sketch; and he sees it as a full art form in its own right. He does his best to apply what he has learned in graphic art to his photographic compositions.
