I’ve been taking pictures since the early 1970s when my father gave me his Argus C3, a totally manual 35mm camera. After purchasing my first SLR (an Olympus OM-10) a decade later, I began shooting hundreds of slides until that camera died during a visit to England in 1989.

It wasn’t until the early 2000s, after a long hiatus from photography as a hobby that I purchased my first digital camera which also happened to be by first Nikon. The Coolpix 995 was a camera that everyone in our family used: it could be run fully automatic but had enough manual control for me to experiment with.

In 2007 I moved into the digital SLR world with a Nikon D40, Nikon’s entry-level digital SLR. I love the flexibility of interchangeable lenses. (I only ever owned a fixed focal length lens for the Olympus.) I recently purchased a prime lens, a 35mm f1.8.

Most of the images here were shot with the 995 and the D40.

Photography for me is simply a hobby and I tend to approach picture-taking with simplicity. I don’t much like mucking with images in Photoshop and prefer to show the picture as is comes out of the camera. Sometimes, however, I do some cropping and levels adjustment.
