I will never forget the terrible buzzing sound when that hideous organic monster chopper (a 4-inch long Midland Club-tail beast like this one) charged me, darting 3 inches over my head when I was 8 years old. That thing suddenly made an amazing 180 degree U-turn in a split second, then proceeded to come back right at me! I was standing there, livid, staring at the monster who was now hovering - way too close of my little nose - looking at me right in the eye. I was petrified.
For 25 years I hated them with a passion. I could not look at a tiny damselfly without sweating like a pig, remembering how vulnerable I felt. The Gaze. Those alien eyes staring at me. Petrifying.
