Each day, the wildlife in our region and around the world may face their own olympic trials… to stay alive, to avoid a predator, to prove they are better than another in their herd or pack, to find food in a frozen or inhospitable land. These elk are sparring months before the rut arrives, no doubt to hone their skills. Witness some of these feats in stills and video here on 500px, or on RedBubble.com, or on RuttleWild.com.

This mountain goat kid barely pauses to focus on its landing zone before launching off one tiny rock platform for another on this cliff face. Sad Ending For A Stunning Bull Moose

In his prime, this bull moose was defending his turf and his cows from an equally impressive bull just the other day. They locked racks, couldn't separate, and both ended up dying. The opposing bull had an atypical rack that had a twist in the front tines, and maybe that accounts for why the two bulls couldn't untangle after engaging in the duel... to their death.

These bison bulls will be entering the rut soon, and are sparring before the big event. Greco-Roman wrestling move? Headlocks are certainly allowed in the wild. Canon 7D, f9, 1/250, focal length 285mm (so they’re close), RAW, Grand Teton National Park, near Moose, Wyoming, USA.
