Scott Markewitz came to photography from the other side of the lens. As a former professional skier, he was often in front of the camera skiing for many top photographers and filmmakers, and appeared in many ski magazines, advertisements, and action films. It was a natural transition to get behind the camera and start shooting, and he is now recognized as one of the most influential outdoor photographers in the industry. His images have appeared on more than 400 US and International magazine covers, including Powder, Ski, Skiing, Outside, Men's Journal, Bike, Mountain Bike, Bicycling, and Runner's World, and in advertising campaigns for most major ski and outdoor brands.
Scott’s passion for photography and the outdoors comes through in everything that he shoots, whether it’s action sports, upbeat lifestyle, or environmental portraits. His strong, vibrant images and ability to take any situation and come back with great shots have given him the reputation as the go-to guy in the outdoor world. Like many of the athletes that he photographs, he is always pushing his limits as a photographer, traveling the globe with an unfailing eye in search of action and adventure in some of the most dramatic locations on Earth.
Scott was featured in Men's Journal as one of the World's Greatest Adventure Photographers. He is the only photographer in Ski Magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential Skiers of All Time and the 2000 recipient of Ski Utah's Excellence in Journalism Award. His images have also received awards from APA, PDN, The International Pano Awards, and The Spider Awards.
When not on assignment, you’ll often find him out skiing, riding his mountain bike, or trail running in the mountains; avidly pursuing some of the sports he loves to photograph. He lives with his wife, Veronique, and their son, Julien, in Salt Lake City, Utah and Provence, France.
