SHANNON'S WILD LIFE
Wildlife Photographer Shannon O’Shea is a relative newcomer to the amazing world of wildlife photography, having only been shooting for 5 years. When her husband noticed her taking a picture of a tulip in her garden with a little film-loaded camera, he thought she needed a “grown-up camera”. After downloading the first pictures with her new camera she was hooked and her new life began. Her photography obsession has gone way beyond anything she could have ever imagined. Photography has given her a greater appreciation of the beauty of nature and the wonders of wildlife. It certainly has helped her look at things in an entirely different way. She has met so many amazing photographers from all over the world who share her passion for photography.
Shannon and her husband enjoy travelling around the country taking pictures of wildlife, particularly waterfowl. Shannon also enjoys photographing nature, landscapes and architecture. Her favorite places for wildlife photography are central Florida and coastal South Carolina and of course the place where she began honing her trade right in her own backyard – Wildwood Lake in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Shannon’s work has appeared in magazines and websites all over the world, including numerous travel sites and youtube videos. She was featured in the April 2014 edition of The Burg magazine and the Harrisburg Patriot-News as well as several times in the Penn Live edition. Her shot of a fawn in a hollowed-out tree stump was chosen for the cover of Member’s 1st Federal Credit Union’s 2015 calendar. Her shot of three Canada Geese goslings has been published in a wonderful children’s book called “Benony and His Family of Canada Geese” by Jan Gardner. Her photo of a baby Red Panda at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk was chosen as the Red Panda of The Month by Mozilla Firefox. The photo appeared on Mozilla Firefox’s Twitter page, as well as their Facebook page. She also had 8 photos chosen for the Picture Project on the South Carolina Information Highway website, www.sciway.net. Her photo of a wild Big Horn Sheep was featured in a TEDxYosemite talk, "How a Lonely Cougar in Los Angeles Inspired the World" by conservationist Beth Pratt-Bergstrom, California Director of the National Wildlife Federation.
In 2014 she received and accepted an invitation to become a Getty Images contributor photographer. She recently had showings of her photographs at Artist Exhibits at The Benjamin Olewine III Nature Center at Wildwood Park and the Dauphin County Administration Building, both in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Capital Blue Health and Wellness Center in Enola, Pennsylvania and St. Thomas Roasters Coffee House in Linglestown, Pennsylvania.
Shannon is a native of Steelton, Pennsylvania and currently resides with her husband, Kenneth Buchanan, in Susquehanna Township. She plans on continuing her travels, improving her skills and hoping to have many more opportunities for people to see and appreciate her work.
You can view Shannon’s photography gallery on Flickr, a world-wide photo sharing site, where she has had over 4.5 million views of her work.
