Silvio Rugolo

Silvio was born and grew up in Catania, Sicily, where he obtained a graduate degree in Computer Science. He takes pictures since he was 8 years old, with an automatic kodak camera (the one with single use cube flashes). He started on SLRs at 14 with a Yashica and then moved to Nikon with FM10 and F80 film cameras starting with Digital Photography as early as it hit the SLRs market with Nikon D70 and then all its successors. He has an absolute passion for Nikon bodies and their ergonomic design.

After many years of stealing time to life during weekends, holidays to shoot around, his activity came to a consolidation point on a website that received very good feedback and about 70 design awards: SR Online Gallery. The site went online in 2002 and it was fully developed on Flash. At that time, it was really innovative (the good Steve had not expressed his veto to the Flash technology yet which was the de-facto standard and a growing fashion for visual websites). Only recently he held his first exhibition in Rome (2011) which was incredibly successful from an attendance and sales perspective. His main photography subject is urban photography and especially the interaction of people with the cities, but he likes to cover to other subjects as well and be surprised by what mother nature can present untouched in front of you.

He’s then participated to some challenges and group exhibitions. In 2012 he won the Bachelet Best Author award and the Best in show award at the London Photo Festival.
