Steve Mahler - Mahler Photography
I am a Seattle, WA based photographer. I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
My love for photography came from my father. He was an Austrian immigrant whom's first camera was a Leica. In 1942 he worked for a family friend named Dr Frank G. Back the inventor of the Zoom lens . In 1959 Dr Back's Zoomar lens was introduced by Voigtländer. This was the first zoom lens for 35mm cameras. http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Zoom_lens
As a kid growing up in the 60's/70's, I remember seeing my dad take pictures with his Voigtländer camera with the Zoomar lens. It was a gift given to him by Dr Back. Little did I know its significant history until years later.
My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic - a far cry from a Leica and Voigtländer! The Instamatic was gift given to me in 1974 when I was 14 for a family vacation to Norway - my mother's homeland. That's when I got hooked on photography! The majestic Norwegian fjords and mountains were some of my first photographs. Not bad subjects to start with!
My passion for photography is as diverse as my lifestyle interests. My camera always goes with me when I'm skiing at Crystal Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb, or traveling to other places. When I photograph people, places and things I strive to capture its basic, real, and invariable nature - its essence.
Your feedback is important to me. Positive or negative. Drop me a comment. Thanks!
