I am a passionate, self taught photographer who started 25 years ago at age 14. Although I have been hired professionally from time to time, more then anything I shoot for my own personal enjoyment. I enjoy working in a controlled studio environment as much as walking the streets in Developing countries.
I recently returned to film photography and shoot analog almost exclusively now. It has forced me to slow down and be more thoughtful which has both changed and improved my style. I enjoy experimenting with different kinds of black & white film and with many different formats, including 35mm range finders, medium format, large format sheet film & expired instant film (Polaroid).
Although the camera itself does not make anyone a better photographer, each camera and lens (and film) has a different “personality” and can be used to change the results much like Photoshop can be used to enhance an image. I used to spend hours in Photoshop adding layers and effects in hopes of adding grit and character to perfectly clean digital images. With different films and lenses, I can do similar things with little to no work in post processing. In the end, I find film to be more authentic, artful, and valuable.
