Photography has been an important part of my life for many years. My first digital camera was a 5.1 MP Sony Cybershot DSC-W5 that I got for my 12th birthday. While I had been taking pictures here and there, my shooting really took off at the beginning of 2007 when my family and I packed our bags and moved to Vietnam for 7 months. I used that opportunity to document our travels there, snapping shots of all the new and incredible things we saw there.
It wasn't until we came back the second time that I invested in a dslr, 6 months and $400 later, I got my hands on a Panasonic Lumix G10. "Finally!" I remember thinking, "Now I have control over my images".
In terms of education, I have taken two terms of photography at Portland Community College. Being part of a larger community of photographers has made me push myself to learn as much as I can about the art. I believe that the only way to become a great photographer is by challenging yourself and experimenting with new techniques.
In the age of digital photography, the speed at which the field evolves and grows is amazing and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead.
