I Ruined It

Published December 30th, 2012

This sequence took place one day while I was walking into town.

Part 1

Walking on the sidewalk, I noticed a squirrel going to town on a mini-pumpkin, with what I imagined were plans of bringing it back to his ..nest? (What's the right word there?) So I reached for my camera and took this shot, which turned out a bit rushed and out of focus.

Part 2

The squirrel noticed me, and bolted for the nearest telephone pole, keeping focused on both the pumpkin and the "threat" I posed.

Part 3

I walked cautiously past the squirrel, stepping delicately around his pumpkin feast, so as not to disturb it. He remained perched on the pole, somehow almost parallel to the ground.

The Finale

I kept looking back to see if he was tracking me, and with each take, I saw him up there, focused as ever. As it turned out, he climbed pretty high up on the telephone pole.

I'll never know if he got to enjoy his pumpkin after I blew up his spot like that, but I hope he got right back to it once I was out of sight.
