I am an amateur photographer and computer geek from Perth, Western Australia.
For most of my life I have been fascinated with taking photographs. In the late '70s my father gave me his old Pentax SLR camera, a 50 mm Carl Ziess prime lens and a handheld light meter. He then proceeded to attempt to teach me some of the aspects of taking successful images. Unfortunately most of the details were too advanced for me, given I was only twelve years of age at the time, but some of the basics stuck in the back of my head.
For many years I made do with simple film cameras and then a series of point and shoot digital cameras. Lacking the funds and having no desire for high quality images, I found no need to obtain more advanced equipment.
I have always had a love of Western Australian native wildflowers and in particular native terrestrial orchids and, over the years, I have taken many photos of these flowers and orchids. But I have never been satisfied with the images these low end cameras have produced.
Investigation showed me that there is no substitute in photography for quality.
Finally, in preparation for the 2012 wildflower season, I succumbed and purchased an Olympus OM-D EM-5 camera. It fit my requirements for a quality camera but with a compact design and changeable lenses.
I immediately fell in love with this new camera and more importantly the images it took. The joy I got from taking and viewing these images caused me to develop a hunger to improve my photographic skills. I must put all this investment to its best use.
Through the reading of a host of excellent photographic websites and regularly listening to a ranger of related podcasts, my understanding of the art of photography has begun to slowly expand.
I am so grateful to my father for giving me such a solid foundation on which to grow these skills.
As I am now developing a comprehensive portfolio of images across a range of subjects, I felt it was time to have a place online to display my photographs.
I hope that you find my Portfolio inspiring and enjoyable.
