I was born in Somerset in 1984, my love of the outdoors began when I was very young with regular trips to Exmoor and The Quantock Hills. Perhaps this is where my primary photographic love (landscapes) came from.
I’ve always had an interest in photography, that is probably thanks to my father being very keen when I was growing up. I only took it up as a hobby during 2006, since then I have been looking for ways to continuously improve the images that I produce, and new subjects to experiment with.
I’m self taught and have learnt all my photographic skills either through trial and error, or by reading up on certain aspects of the hobby then trying to reproduce similar results. At times this has proved frustrating, but, it is very rewarding when things go right.
I first developed my interest in creative photography as a hobby whilst using digital compact cameras, mostly various incarnations of the Olympus Mju series. Soon I realised the limitations of a compact, and progressed to an Olympus E500 digital SLR with multiple lenses, this expanded the degree of creativity I was able to employ in my images I took. More recently I have purchased an Apple iPhone and whilst it’s camera is not very good quality compared to the SLR it often proves useful in the field with apps for photography such as light meters etc. More recently I have begun to use the range of filters produced in the UK by Lee, they are superb and definitely something I want to purchase more of - superb quality and produce superb results!
My main area of interest within photography is landscapes, particularly in the more remote areas of the UK, and this is the area I would like to specialise in as my skills develop. Other photographic interests include animals and water, although an interest in motorsport occasionally sees me take my SLR to race days and car shows.
I try not to add too much to my photos with post processing software such as Photoshop or Aperture. I like my images to be as close as possible to what I saw through the viewfinder of my camera, therefore the only post processing I normally do is to subtly adjust colours or crop images.
