Portlander. Physician. Photo nut.
Ever learning: about medicine, about photography, about life.
The places I visit may not always be secluded and personal, but my pursuit of photography is--deeply so, I hope you'll find. My hope is to bring you closer to the beauty that surrounds us--beauty that we often overlook or take for granted--by taking you to places you've never been before or by setting fresh eyes upon familiar scenes so that you can fall in love with them all over again...as I do every time I revisit a trail.
In the process (and between some of my more light-hearted image descriptions), you may find some common threads interwoven throughout much of my work, both out in the field taking photos and in my profession of helping care for ill patients. Inasmuch as I use photography as an escape from the struggles of life and death that I see unfold on a daily basis, I sometimes find it futile because on some level, they are inseparable--even symbiotic: I bring what I learn in the practice of medicine and incorporate those principles into my photography, and in turn my life on the trail helps me better understand and relate to the journey patients and their families often endure in their experience of serious illness or injury. Finding and appreciating beauty in the midst of tragedy is a paradox: it at once requires a willful deliberation to unclutter the mind while not forcing things and just letting them come to you. The journey is long, and there is an endless amount to be learned--in photography and in medicine.
My sincere thanks to you for visiting me here on 500px. Hope you enjoy!
