Silent Valley National Park

Silent Valley - it is an offbeat location nestled amidst the western ghats in Kerala. The place gets its name from the fact that there are no "crickets" around (all got eaten up by the in-numerous birds?). Just getting to that place is an experience in itself. You need to get to the Forest Inspection Bungalow at Mukkali to get arrangements done for a Jeep ride into the park. Mukkali is itself a remote place - be prepared to have tea/biscuits/banana for food. Once you arrive at the Forest Department's IB - get arrangements done for a Guide and a Jeep by paying the printed charges. (in Jan 2012, we payed 650 for the jeep for 5 hours - with 100/hr extra, and 250 for the guide). Once the Jeep is ready, your real journey begins!
